Films for Construction and Industrial

Advantages through a broad range of properties

Customers in this segment fabricate myriad products utilizing a broad range of materials for extremely demanding applications that are exposed to some of the harshest environments.

Covestro offers you high quality films from an extensive portfolio of custom-engineered products that have consistently held up to rigorous processing and the punishing in-place demands of industrial and construction applications.

Water vapor permeable, weather-, UV- und chemical resistant

In the building and industrial sector our TPE films Platilon® and Dureflex® can demonstrate their benefits in terms of weather resistance, UV light and chemical resistance. Additional benefits are paintability, deep drawability, and of course water vapor permeability, for example important in permeable roof underlining sheets. Platilon® and Dureflex polyurethane films also contribute to the efficient refurbishment of sewage water and gas pipes. Our films serve as processing aid and thus provide cost reductions and a faster completion of pipe refurbishment works. Further construction applications are comices.

Attractive printed decorations

The construction industry uses our Makrofol® and Bayfol® polycarbonate films primarily for interior applications. Components such as decorated furniture panels are at the fore here. The films' good printability allows for sophisticated designs.

Flexible tubes and pipes

In industrial applications, the focus is largely on the mechanical properties of Dureflex® and Platilon®. Our films are a viable alternative to PVC and rubber whenever elastic connections are required. They are used for such things as flexible tubes, chutes and vessel linings. Arguments for their use are the high wear resistance versus abrasive substances, their low-temperature flexibility and resistance to chemicals, moisture and sharp impacts. Their use also frequently results in lighter-weight components than are possible with other materials.

Wear-resistant conveyor and drive belts

Dureflex® and Platilon® are also at home in conveying equipment for industrial goods and foodstuffs. They offer major advantages as a surface for transport and drive belts. For example, they are highly flexible, resistant to wear, tearing and tear propagation, and retain their mechanical property profile even in icy temperatures such as when used in a cold store.

Blow moldings with good barrier behavior

Dureflex® can also be used to produce blow moldings such as folding containers, promotional and weather balloons, buoys and bladders. These applications take advantage of its excellent bending fatigue strength, resistance to tearing and abrasion, and good barrier behavior versus filling gases.
